If you have health insurance your policy may cover Registered Nutritionists consultations. You need to look into your own policy and insurance company. Many have their appointments covered by insurance.
-
Before your appointment you will be sent a Pre-Appintment Questionnaire. This helps me get an overall view of your current health. Any recent blood test results or other relevant test results are also helpful if you can send these to me (or request they are sent by your doctor/specialist) prior to our appointment, or just bring them along.
A pre-completed food diary is also very helpful (2-3 days food, timing, activity).
-
During your consultation we discuss health concerns and history, current habits and health goals.
From this we make an action plan which includes step wise goal setting - for optimising nutrition and exercise
-consideration of supplements
-consideration of further tests that may be helpful
-referrals to other health providers as necessary
-
Most people benefit from follow up appointments, but they are not compulsory. I will recommend a certain number of follow ups dependent on your goals and progress. The fend package of one initial appointment and 2 follow up appointments is the recommended option to get the most out of my services.
-
fend aims to educate clients to understand how nutrition, exercise, sleep and stress impact on overall health. Routinely we don't create meal plans but rather, teach you how to build meals based on individual recommendations and give examples of this.
-
No, you can self-refer and book in. However, I am very happy to receive referral letters from your health care practitioner. This is very helpful in some cases, especially for REDs, LEA, or women receiving fertility or pregnancy care. It can be sent from your referrer via my Refer a Patient page on this website. Some health insurance companies require a referral letter from a specialist to claim for Nutritionist appointment cover.

If you need to cancel or change your appointment time please email me at phoebe@fend.health as soon as possible.
Tauranga and Mount Maunganui based nutritionist and health educator
Meet Phoebe de Jong
I’m a registered nutritionist with a strong interest in nutrition, exercise and wellness strategies for teenagers, pregnancy, women’s health, perimenopause, sporting performance and healthy ageing.
My advice and plans are grounded in evidence-based research, and what the latest thinking has to tell us about weight management, optimum performance, and hormonal health. I’ll help you cut through the noise and opinion, and focus on what really matters.
At the same time, I won’t ask you to be perfect - I understand just how hectic life can get. I’ll work to understand your lifestyle, and provide plans that are balanced, practical and achievable.
